A nationwide SEIU Health Care Caravan is making two stops in Oregon en route to the Democratic and Republic National Conventions.
The Caravan focuses on health insurance profiteering in Salem Aug. 5 and family health at a roundtable in Portland Aug. 8.

“We’re here to let you know the time is now to fix our broken health care system,” SEIU 503 President Joe DiNicola told a news conference in the State Capitol following release of a report, Insuring Health or Insuring Profit? A Snapshot of the Health Insurance Industry in the United States

Appearing with a coalition of health care reform leaders, DiNicola noted that many of the 47 million Americans who remain uninsured are denied coverage and care directly as a result of practices by an insurance industry that is making an annual profit of $12 billion.

Following the news conference, the SEIU health tour bus, which has been visiting political battleground states since April, headed north for the roundtable, “Let’s Work Together for Family Health Care” at the Portland YMCA, featuring Congressman Earl Blumenauer and Oregon State Representatives Diane Rosenbaum and Carolyn Tomei .

The bus is to make additional stops in Washington and Montana before visiting Denver and Minneapolis for the national political conventions.
